The Rocky Bay Scholarship aims to support and encourage commencing 4th year Australian students currently enrolled in Physiotherapy at Curtin University.

Rocky Bay is a leading provider of disability services, offering choice and independence to people of all ages living with disability in Western Australia. Rocky Bay delivers relevant therapies, innovative leisure and social programs, training and employment opportunities, and uses the latest equipment and technology.

Value

The Rocky Bay Scholarship will provide the following support for one year (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

  • A total value of up to $5,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards payment of their course fees, or for other education-related expenses such as text books and/or general living expenses.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Rocky Bay Scholarship:

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Be enrolled full-time in 3rd year of B. Science (Physiotherapy) and intending to commence 4th year in Semester 1, 2019 at Curtin
  • Have a minimum CWA of 50
  • Be able to demonstrate financial hardship and low socio economic status
  • Be willing to give two brief presentations to the sponsor on the following:
  • Beginning of scholarship  - outline the impact that the scholarship will have
  • End of scholarship - outline the impact that the scholarship has had
  • Not be in reciept of any other non-Curtin funded scholarship
Conditions that need to be met to keep your scholarship

Recipients must meet ALL of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full-time enrolment of 100 credits each semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester
  • Fail no more than one unit each semester
  • Attend the Rocky Bay Loyalty and Star Awards as follows:
    • January following the scholarship award to deliver a brief 3-5 minute presentation on how the scholarship is anticipated to make a difference to them in their final year
    • January following the scholarship completion to deliver a brief 3-5 minute presentation reflecting on how the scholarship assisted them in the completion of their final year

Scholarship continuity is subject to meeting satisfactory academic progress as outlined above. Progress will be assessed at the end of each study period. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, a recipient with unsatisfactory progress or who breaches the scholarship conditions shall be ineligible to retain the scholarship. Exceptional circumstances must be forwarded to and shall be at the discretion of Curtin in consultation with the Sponsor.

Changes to enrolment

If a recipient intends to do any of the following they must also apply in writing to the Scholarships Office (scholarships@curtin.edu.au) for approval BEFORE the change. The Scholarships Office will advise how the change will affect their scholarship.

  • Change from full time enrolment

 

Leave of Absence is not permitted.

Withdrawal or Termination of course: A recipient who withdraws from their units or course of study, or has been terminated from studies will become ineligible for continuation of the scholarship, will not receive any further payments and will be required to repay to Curtin University the stipend awarded for that study period if applicable.

Step 1: Apply

  • Application form can be accessed via ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the ‘Application Advice’ tab on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date listed at top of page and within scholarships channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstrated financial hardship and low socio economic status

Step 6: Outcome

  • Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of the outcome via the Scholarhsip Channel (Student OASIS) within approximately 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 8: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline given

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
  • Scholarship will commence from the semester of study for which the scholarship was awarded
  • Scholarship is not transferrable to another major, course or university

Students may apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible for however, will only be awarded up to one non-Curtin funded continuing scholarship.  A continuing scholarship is defined as a scholarship that has more than two payments.
