About this scholarship
The University Basketball League (UBL) Regional Bursary has been developed by Curtin University to support and encourage regional high performing basketball players who have an interest in joining the Curtin UBL team upon the commencement of their studies.

The UBL Regional Bursary will provide the following support for up to one semester covering the UBL basketball season:
- A total value of up to $5,000 paid in two instalments:
1. The first instalment of $2,500 will be made upon award post-census date and
2. The second and final instalment of $2,500 will be made upon successful completion of the UBL season
The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses such as text books and/or general living expenses, or fees related to the UBL.
Scholarship Details
Any undergraduate degree
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the UBL Regional Bursary:
- Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen
- Enrolling into an undergraduate degree at Curtin in semester 1, 2024
- Relocating from a regional or remote area (as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) to commence studies at Curtin
- Interested and available to join and participate in the Curtin UBL team for the duration of the 2024 season
- Have a minimum ATAR of 70
- Be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported place at Curtin
- Have completed and have evidence of competing at a high level of basketball
- If recipient is injured pre-season and/or not able to play in the 2024 UBL season, the bursary may be deferred/placed on hold until the 2025 season
Application process
Step 1: Access online application form
- Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses provided in the application form
- Sporting ability and potential
- Reference letter from a recent (last 12 months) coach / sports teacher / mentor addressing basketball abilities
- Reference checks (if required)
- Passion and capability statement
- Coach assessment for shortlisted applicants (if required)
- This will take place between 4 – 15 December. Details and requirements of this will be sent to shortlisted applicants
Preference will be given to the following applicants:
- Applicants eligible for the Curtin Elite Athlete Program for basketball
- Residential address is in a RA4 or RA5 category
Step 6: Outcome
- Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC after main round offers (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)
- Students cannot receive more than one offer of a scholarship if they are from the same funding source or for the same purpose.
Step 7: Acceptance
- Successful applicants (including those who wish to defer their studies) must return acceptance documents by the deadline stipulated in the terms and conditions
- Deferral of this scholarship is not permitted unless there are extenuating circumstances (details included in scholarship terms and conditions)
Please note:
- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
- Scholarship will commence from first semester of study
- Scholarship is not transferable to another university
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Maintain a full-time or part time study load (minimum 25 credits)at Curtin University
- If recipient is injured pre-season and/or not able to play in the 2024 UBL season, the bursary may be deferred/placed on hold until the 2025 season
