About this scholarship

The IGO Scholarship aims to support Curtin University students within the WA School of Mines (WASM) experiencing financial hardship while attending studies at the Kalgoorlie Campus. 

Preference will be given to those students who have relocated from remote/regional areas across Australia.

The IGO Scholarship will provide the following support as a one-off payment (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits):

  • A cash payment of $2,500. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Scholarship Details

All undergraduate courses within the WA School of Mines (WASM)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the IGO Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 25 credits in an undergraduate course at the WA School of Mines Kalgoorlie campus in semester 2, 2024
  • A minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 60
  • From a low socio-economic background and/or experiencing financial hardship
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships that is from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all other scholarships (both equity as well as merit scholarships) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete).
  • If you would like to be considered for all other Equity scholarships available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the 2024 - Semester 2 - Equity Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete).

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications for the IGO Scholarship will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstration of financial hardship
    • Socioeconomic background
    • Demonstrate career aspirations within mining industry
    • Reference letter
    • Preference will be given to students who have relocated or will be relocating from a remote/regional area across Australia

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline
