About this scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to fund research in resources technology and/or critical minerals and to deepen connections with industry.

The areas of focus for the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer Program include, but are not limited to:

•             Rare Earths Supply Chain – A/Prof Bogale Tadesse, Prof Katy Evans

A successful PhD candidate will receive an attractive scholarship package, covering both stipend and tuition fees, totalling approximately $85,000 per year.

The stipend scholarship is $50,000 per annum (tax-free) for 3 years.

MPhil candidates will be entitled to $50,000 per annum (tax-free) for 2 years, in line with the MPhil timeframe.

Selection for these scholarships is by a competitive process and shortlisted applicants will be notified of outcomes in due course.

As a recipient of this scholarship, you will also have exclusive access to PhD (RTP defined) internship opportunities through Curtin's own Industry Exchange team.

Scholarship Details

Any PhD or Master of Philosophy candidates with an interest in resources technology and/or critical minerals.

  • Full-time enrolment
  • Successful recipients must also not be in receipt of any other scholarship
  • Strong academic transcript (+70% CWA)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong appetite to learn new skills and technology
  • Work experience in industry (highly regarded but not necessary)
  • Provide a commitment to completing an internship

Application process

Step 1: Express your interest in this advertised project and scholarship by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) form. This step is crucial to seek supervisory support and receive an official Invitation to Apply. For assistance in finding supervisory support, please contact the Trailblazer team at trailblazer@curtin.edu.au.

Step 2: Within 5 business days of applying for admission to Curtin University, applicants who receive an Invitation to Apply must forward a copy of their Invitation to Apply for Higher Degree by Research Form (which includes their CV and academic transcript) to trailblazer@curtin.edu.au, formally submitting their scholarship application.

Step 3: The Trailblazer team will coordinate bi-monthly scholarship selection meetings. Shortlisted scholarship applicants should expect to be notified of the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer Scholarship results within 3 months from the completion of Step 2. Please provide any enrolment status updates directly to trailblazer@curtin.edu.au, as your application for admission to Curtin University progresses.

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must complete their Milestone 1 within 6 month of enrolment and remain enrolled on a full-time basis for the duration of the scholarship.

This scholarship is funded by the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer (RTCM Trailblazer). The RTCM Trailblazer builds new research capabilities and drives commercialisation outcomes in the resources technology and critical minerals sector. 

There will be opportunities to be involved in the Trailblazer Program and associated events.
