About this scholarship

The late Mrs Edna Maskell, widow of a former Curtin staff member, generously established the Edna Maskell Scholarship through a bequest to the University. 

The Edna Maskell Scholarship (the Scholarship) supports students enrolled in a postgraduate course in Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science, to enable practicum placements or professional development opportunities (e.g. industry conference) that will enhance their studies and increase their opportunities after graduation.

The Scholarship will provide the following support (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits):

  • A one-off cash payment of up to $3,000.

The scholarship can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards, such as travel, accommodation, conference/workshop registration, and costs associated with their practicum placement or a professional development opportunity.

Double degrees considered.

Please note:

  • OUA students are also eligible to apply, however must be enrolled in a full award eligible course (as above). Students enrolled in single subjects (non-award) through OUA are not eligible to apply.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Scholarship:

  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, the holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa, New Zealand citizen or International student
  • Enrolled in an at least 25 credits of an eligible course at Curtin University in Semester 1, 2024
  • Must have completed at least 75 credits of your current course of study at the time of application
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Must have a minimum CWA of 50
  • Demonstration of how the scholarship funding will be used to support the student’s practicum placement or professional development opportunity.

Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all equity scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all scholarships (equity and merit) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program".

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ page on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstrated financial need
    • Written statement on how the scholarship funding be used to support the student’s practicum placement or professional development opportunity and how this will contribute to their study/career goals.

Step 6: Outcome

  • Outcome will be sent via the Scholarships Channel within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
  • All unsuccessful and successful applicants will be notified

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit and need.

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a minimum study load of at least 25 credit points
  • Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
