About this scholarship
The Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship (the Scholarship) empowers students who are without family support to flourish through their higher education journey by providing support through to graduation. The longer term goal; is to create a cohort of students, who are learning without family support, to see the benefit of higher education. It will also encourage those students to volunteer their time to mentor and empower the next Wheatley Family Foundation Scholarship recipients.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to 4 years of support (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):
- A total value of up to $44,000 paid as:
- An initial cash stipend of $5,500 to be used to contribute towards education related expenses.
- Subsequent semesters: $4,000 will be allocated to the recipient’s course fees and $1,500 paid to the recipient as a cash stipend to be used towards education expenses
Scholarship also includes access to the following Curtin opportunities during the scholarship:
- Curtin Challenge Modules: Suite of online learning modules that cover everything from Career Development activities to leadership learning.
- Career Workshops (online and face to face): Supporting students to reflect and consider various career options and how to create strong applications for employment.
- Curtin Volunteers (CV!): Opportunities to engage in volunteer activities within local and rural, both to give back to communities and to develop skills which may support career development.
- Industry Mentoring program (IMP): 11-week mentoring program where students are matched with mentors in their industry of choice to build networks and learn how to best apply themselves for their future careers. Open to undergraduate students in the second year or beyond who are available for at least one hour each week to connect with their mentor.
Scholarship Details
All undergraduate degrees
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the scholarship:
- Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holders or New Zealand citizen
- Must have a minimum enrolment of at least 50 credits at Curtin University in semester 1, 2025
- Have a minimum Course Weighted Average (CWA) of 65 for current students, or a minimum ATAR of 80 for students starting in Semester 1 2025
- Must demonstrate passion to give back and willingness to help empower the next cohort of scholarship recipients or community.
- Demonstrated financial hardship
- Does not receive financial or emotional support from family
Application process
Step 1: Access application form
- Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
- Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all equity scholarships that you are eligible for in this round
- If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all scholarships (equity and merit) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program".
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt sent to student email once application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Financial hardship
- Preference given to rural/regional and/or Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
Step 6: Outcome
- All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date
Step 7: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline
Please note:
- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit
- Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Maintain a minimum of 50 credits part-time enrolment per semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each study period
- Pass all units attempted each study period
