About this scholarship

The Shooting Stars Enabling Scholarship (Scholarship) encourages and empowers female Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are experiencing financial need, to complete the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course (ITEC). 

ITEC equips Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the skills and confidence needed to study at tertiary level and prepares them for a range of degrees and associate degree programs at Curtin University.

The Scholarship will provide the following support (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits):

  • A one-off cash payment of $2,500. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education related expenses

Scholarship Details

  • Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course (ITEC) (on-campus/internal attendance mode only)

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Shooting Stars Enabling Scholarship:

  • Australian Citizen
  • Identify as female
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Demonstrated financial hardship and/or low socio-economic background
  • Commenced or commencing the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course (ITEC) (on-campus/internal attendance mode only) full-time or part-time (minimum 25 credits) in semester 1, 2025
  • Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose

Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found under the Applying for scholarships link on the scholarships website

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Demonstration of financial hardship
    • Socio-economic background
    • Preference will be given to Shooting Stars graduates

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Maintain an enrolment of at least 25 credits in the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course (ITEC) in semester 1, 2025 at Curtin University
  • Not receive any other scholarships that are philanthropically funded and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the Scholarship
