About this scholarship

This PhD scholarship is funded through the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence grant entitled: Optimising the emergency response to save lives: An Aus-ROC Centre of Research Excellence (Aus-ROC CRE). The purpose of the scholarship is to provide a full-time PhD stipend to enable doctoral research that aims to make a difference to survival outcomes for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). 

The exact PhD topic is negotiable. Whilst it must align with the Aus-ROC CRE program of research, the focus could be clinical, epidemiology, public health, health services, psychosocial, linguistic or spatial analysis.

This scholarship provides a living stipend of $37,500 p.a. pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3 years, pending satisfactory progress each year. 

Plus, up to $5000 (total) for computer / software / conference attendance to present PhD results.

Higher degree by Research (PhD) – in Health Sciences

  • Australian and NZ citizens or Permanent Residents (ie "Domestic" students - Full-time enrolment) 
  • Prior studies in a field relevant to the PhD topic (including spatial analysis, psychology, linguistics, epidemiology, biostatistics, and health sciences eg paramedicine). 
  • Excellent academic record in a relevant field.
  • Meet the criteria for admission to a PhD at Curtin University.
  • Evidence of expertise in research methodology or willingness to learn.
  • Well-developed computer skills.

Application process

Expressions of interest are invited to be submitted electronically to Professor Judith Finn via EOI form and should include: 

  1. a current CV with a full citation of all publications;
  2. a statement about your research interests (maximum one page);
  3. academic transcripts for every degree you hold;
  4. the names of two referees, at least one being an academic referee.

This will allow initial consideration of suitability for enrolment into a PhD and for the award of the scholarship. Where applicable an interview will be arranged. Applications will remain open until the PhD scholarship has been awarded.

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must complete their milestone 1 within 6 months of enrolment, achieve an academic status of 'good standing' at each Annual Report, and remain enrolled on a full time basis for the duration of the scholarship.

Further Information

Applicants who are currently in receipt of an Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarship, NHMRC or other scholarship, will receive a $10,000 top-up scholarship per annum. 

Applications will remain open until the PhD scholarship has been awarded. 

Applicants will be required to attend Curtin Bentley campus full-time.

Consideration will be given to partial relocation support for interstate applicants.
