About this scholarship

This scholarship is funded by the ARC Research Hub for Value-Added Processing of Underutilised Carbon Waste, which is established in 2024 with the aim for developing advance upcycling technologies and associated regulatory and social engagement for processing under-utilised carbon waste within Australia and overseas. The scholarship will support one student in developing advanced pyrolysis technologies to enhance the quality of waste tyre pyrolysis oil. The research will involve conducting experiments to investigate the formation of sulfur species during waste tyre pyrolysis and developing catalysts for tyre pyrolysis oil upgrading.

This scholarship provides a living stipend of $37,500 p.a. (2025) pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3.5 years and Tuition Fees offset support.

Scholarship Details

Any student eligible to study a PhD focused on Chemical Engineering.

Applicants are required to:

  • Full-time enrolment
  • Show the capacity to carry out independent research and have adequate training
  • Have a Master degree or bachelor degree with first class honours, or close to obtaining the degrees (e.g. in the last semester/final stage of the degree).

Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must complete their milestone 1 within 6 month of enrolment and remain enrolled on a full time basis for the duration of the scholarship.
