About this scholarship
The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration WA Scholarship (Scholarship) has been developed to enrich students' educational experiences and to attract and retain students based in the Kalgoorlie region to support the Western Australian Mining industry.
The Scholarship supports a safe, fair and responsible future for the Western Australian community, industry and resources sector.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of three years (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):
- A total value of up to $30,000 paid as a cash stipend of $5,000 per semester.
The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards education related expenses.
Scholarship Details
Undergraduate degree (2nd year plus):
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mining Engineering)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Metallurgical Engineering)
- Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy) or Bachelor of Science (Mineral Processing)
Or
Postgraduate course work (any year level):
- Master of Professional Engineering (Mining Engineering)
- Master of Professional Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering)
Please note:
- Any double degrees with the above eligible course/major are eligible for this Scholarship.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Scholarship:
- Domestic student (Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian or New Zealand citizen)
- Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in an eligible year and course in semester 1, 2026 at Curtin's Western Australian School of Mines (WASM)
- Have a current course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65
- Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
Please note:
- Preference will be given to students enrolled at Curtin's Kalgoorlie campus
Application process
Step 1: Access application form
- Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
- If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship, as well as all equity and merit scholarships, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process
- Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS)
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Academic merit
- Passion for course / vision for career
Step 6: Outcome
- All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 9 weeks of the scholarship closing date
Step 7: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Remain enrolled in the eligible course of study
- Maintain a full-time study load of at least 100 credits each semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65 each study period
- Pass all units attempted each study period
- Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
