About this scholarship
The WASM Equity Scholarship (Scholarship) has been established to support undergraduate students enrolled in their second, third, or fourth year of a WASM course who are experiencing financial hardship and come from a low-socioeconomic background.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year:
- A total value of $12,000 paid as a cash stipend of $6,000 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient’s discretion to contribute towards education related expenses.

- Bachelor of Engineering (Energy Engineering) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Science (Science) (Extractive Metallurgy)
- Bachelor of Science (Science) (Mineral Processing)
- Bachelor of Science (Science) (Mining)
Double degrees with any of the above courses will be considered.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered eligible for the Scholarship:
- Australian or New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, or an Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
- Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in the second, third, or fourth year of an eligible course in Semester 1, 2026
- Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 50
- Low socio-economic background and demonstrated financial hardship
- Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
Application process
Step 1: Access online application form
- Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
- Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all equity scholarships that you are eligible for in this round
- If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship, as well as all equity and merit scholarships, we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Demonstration of financial hardship
- Socio-economic background
Step 6: Outcome
- All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 9 weeks of the scholarship closing date
Step 7: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the lapse date

- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Remain enrolled in initial course of study
- Maintain a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester
- Pass all units attempted each semester
- Not receive any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose whilst receiving the Scholarship
