The Moombaki Medicine Scholarship (Scholarship) has been developed by the Curtin Medicine School to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students who are entering the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) through the Indigenous Entry Pathway. Recipients will receive financial support for the duration of their degree, helping to reduce barriers to education and enabling them to focus on their goal of becoming a doctor. 

Moombaki is the Noongar word for “where the river meets the sky”. It carries the spirit of the Curtin Medical School's long-term commitment to meeting the medical practice needs of WA communities by investing in and growing the states Indigenous medical practitioner base. The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of 5 years (based on a full-time study load of 200 credits per year):

• A total value of up to $75,000 paid as a cash stipend of $7,500 per semester.

The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the Scholarship:

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander decent
• Entered Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Entry Pathway
• Enrolled full-time (200 credits per year) in Semester 1, 2027
• Not in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose

Step 1: Apply for course admission

• Apply for admission to the Curtin MBBS program via the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway to commence in 2027

Step 2: Assessment

• Scholarship candidacy will be assessed using the following criteria:
  • Responses to questions in course application
  • Receipt of an offer of a place into the Curtin MBBS program via the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway to commence in 2027

Step 3: Outcome

• All applicants will be notified of their scholarship outcome by the Scholarships Office to the email address listed in your direct Curtin course application after main round course offers.
• Students cannot receive more than one offer of a scholarship if they are from the same funding source or for the same purpose.

Step 4: Acceptance

• Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions by the lapse date

Please note:

• Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit

Recipients must meet all of the following:

• Remain enrolled in initial course of study 
• Maintain a full-time study load of at least 200 credit points each year at Curtin University
• Pass all units attempted each study period
