About this scholarship
The Zijin Mining - Norton Gold Fields Indigenous Scholarship (Scholarship) was established to support Indigenous students in mining and related fields, promote the cultivation of local talent, and foster long-term collaboration. This initiative also aims to further enhance the influence of Norton Gold Fields and Zijin in the Kalgoorlie region, and to actively give back to the local community.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to one year (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester):
- A total value of up to $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of $7,500 per semester
- Guaranteed paid internship opportunity with Norton Gold Fields in the June semester break
The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.
Note:
- The second payment of the scholarship ($7,500) is subject to the recipient completing the paid internship opportunity with Norton Gold Fields.
Scholarship Details
All undergraduate award degrees within the WA School of Mines (WASM):
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) Honours
- Bachelor of Engineering (Metallurgical Engineering) Honours
- Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) Honours
- Bachelor of Engineering (Energy Engineering) Honours
- Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy) or Bachelor of Science (Mineral Processing)
- Bachelor of Science (Mining)
Double degrees will be considered.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Scholarship:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Enrolled full-time (100 credits) in the third or fourth year of an eligible degree and major in semester 1, 2026
- Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 60
- Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
Application process
Step 1: Access application form
- Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
- Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process
- Multiple scholarships can be applied for at one time

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Academic merit
- Non-Academic Achievements
- Passion for course / Vision for career
- Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)
Step 6: Shortlist for Interview
- Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email in late March to early April
- Shortlisted applicants must be available during the designated interview period between 25 March - 22 April 2026
Step 7: Outcome
- Successful and unsuccessful interview applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) within 9 weeks of closing date
Step 8: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the lapse date

- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Remain enrolled in initial course of study
- Maintain a full-time enrolment of 100 credits per semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 60 each semester
- Pass all units attempted each semester
- Complete the paid internship opportunity with Norton Gold Fields during the June semester break
- Not be in receipt of any other scholarship from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose
