“The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia is a statutory body established by the Western Australian Government under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act 2013 to stimulate minerals research to support investment in, and operation of, a globally competitive minerals industry in Western Australia”

The purpose of these scholarships is to support graduate research training in disciplines underpinning the Minerals Industry in Western Australia by enabling students of exceptional research promise to undertake higher degrees by research at universities in Western Australia.  A total of three (3) scholarships will be awarded across the universities in Western Australia.

The scholarships are typically awarded to PhD students enrolled in the Faculties of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics and Science. However, relevant applications will be considered from candidates in other Faculties.

1 Directors PhD scholarship @ no less than $40,000 in one of 3 fields:

  •  In Situ Leaching or Data Analytics
  •  or Scale up from Bench to Production

2 PhD research scholarships@ no less than $30,000 annually

  • Odwyn Jones PhD Scholarship
  • MRIWA PhD scholarship open to Women only
Eligible courses

Business, Engineering (all disciplines), Earth and Environment, Mathematics and Statistics, Agriculture and Resource Economics,  Chemistry,  Earth Sciences, Engineering Science, Geology, Exploration Geoscience, Geoscience, Ore Deposit Geology, Mathematics and Engineering technology relating to minerals research.

Application process
  1. Formal application for enrolment and scholarship is through each university’senrolment/application portal: Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch Universityand The University of Western Australia AND
  2. Expression of Interest (EOI) necessary to MRIWA at, as early as possible and no later than October 31, 2017.

EOI must contain: 

  • Name, residential address, contact telephone number and email
  • University Academic Record and CV
  • Letters of reference from 2 academic familiar with your career
  • One-page description of research proposal with a signed
  • Endorsement from proposed research supervisor, with their university and faculty.

IMPORTANT:  Please apply for admission if you have not already done so via Curtin online e-application:  Your expression of interest will not be assessed if you have not applied for admission.
