About this scholarship
The Sir William Tyree Engineering Scholarship (Scholarship) has been developed to support students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, to provide support throughout their four-year course of study.
The Tyree Foundation has established scholarships for engineering students across all Australian states.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of 4 years:
- A total value of $60,000 paid as a cash stipend of $7,500 per study period
The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.
Scholarship Details
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
Double degrees are NOT considered eligible
Applicants must meet all the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Scholarship:
- Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident, Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder, or New Zealand Citizen;
- Receive an eligible course offer and will enrol full-time (minimum 100 credits per semester) at Curtin University in Semester 1, 2027;
- Low socio-economic background and demonstrated financial hardship; and
- Not be in receipt of any other scholarships that are from the same funding source and/or for the same purpose.
Application process
Step 1: Access application form
- Application form can be accessed via the ‘My Studies’ tab in OASIS or via the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
- Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Equity Scholarship Program" application form. Once you submit your application, you will then be considered for all equity scholarships that you are eligible for in this round.
- If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for all scholarships (equity and merit) available in this round, we recommend that you apply for the "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program".
Step 2: Complete
- Complete the application form online
- Application form can be saved at any point of the process

Step 3: Submit
- Closing date is listed at the top of the page
- Incomplete applications will not be assessed
- Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
Step 4: Receipt
- Application receipt will be sent to the email address provided when you created your Curtin account, once your application has been submitted
Step 5: Assessment
- Applications for the Scholarship will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
- Responses to questions in application form
- Written statement of up to 500 words detailing disadvantage
- Demonstrated financial hardship and low socio-economic background
- Performance in interview (if required)
- Preference will be given to:
- Students from regional or remote areas; and/or
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students
Step 6: Shortlist for Interview (Only applies if an interview is required)
- Shortlisted applicants will be contacted and sent an interview date and time in late November 2026
- Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time, if an interview is required (8th - 11th December 2026)
Step 7: Outcome
- Outcome will be sent via the email address listed through TISC or your direct Curtin course application after main round course offers (all successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified)
Step 8: Acceptance
- Successful applicants must return acceptance documents by the deadline stipulated in the terms and conditions
Please note:
- Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit
- Deferral of this scholarship is not permitted
Enrolment Requirements
Recipients must meet all of the following:
- Remain enrolled in their initial course of study
- Maintain full-time enrolment (minimum of 100 credit points) each semester at Curtin University
- Maintain a Course Weighted Average (CWA) of at least 60 each semester
- Pass all units attempted
